Today I am doing a bunch of freelance writing online and trying to get a little bit ahead since I won’t be working Friday or Monday. I will be at my brother’s wedding during that time. I am looking forward to a little warmer weather. We had 60s here on Saturday and it felt like 80 degrees.
I find on cold days when it gets dark early, my body responds by wanting to go to sleep very early. Half the time I end up in my pajamas by 7 p.m.!
Tonight I plan on getting on my pajamas early, watching another episode of Battlestar Galatica and then maybe starting to read The Outliers.

Vacation Packing for Four Days Away
No, that is not the suitcase I am using. I might if it had wheels, but even empty that puppy weighs a ton and my life would be misery carting that through the airport with layovers, etc. In addition, it is much too sentimental to ever check as luggage. I would worry about it getting lost or stolen.
This suitcase, which has fabulous red fabric lining inside, was my mother’s when she was a flight attendant in the 60s. It was standard issue for the “stewardesses” at the time. In the 60s, it was a really big deal to be a stewardess. There were stringent requirements, including how tall you were and how much you weighed! In fact, my mother hid her pregnancy with me until she was 7 months pregnant. So you could say I’ve been an air traveler since I was in the womb.
At first glance, the forces that led to my birth might seem a little romantic: while she was a stewardess my mother met my father, an air traffic controller … I love my parents, but they were not right for each and have since found their true loves. I’m lucky to have all four of these people in my life!
Anyway, enough of my side story, here’s what I wanted to say about packing!
I tend to be a planner and so I actually already have my suitcase packed for my four day trip. My mother jokes that my wardrobe is so tiny it makes it easy for me to pack for a trip — I just bring everything. Well, that’s not far from the truth. Here is what I am bringing and wearing for four days.
I’ll put what I’m bringing by showing what I plan to wear each day, including on the plane.
Thursday (on the airplane)
Black Rebecca Beeson tee
Black DKNY blazer
Levis
Black high-heeled ankle boots
Ruby red pashmina
Black trench coat (I may end up carrying this over one arm, but I usually get chilled on airplanes, especially night flights like this one)
Vintage Mexican silver choker (this was a 40th birthday gift from my mother, whom I am meeting at the airport)
Friday: guess what? don’t be shocked, I’ll be wearing the same outfit as the night before minus the blazer and trench and pashmina!
Saturday (before the wedding):
Turquoise Gap v-neck tshirt
Levis
wedge black sandals
Silver necklace
Saturday night (at wedding)
LBD
black tights
black mary jane pumps
black beaded necklace looped
maybe ruby red pashmina
Sunday:
Light turquoise Free People blouse
Levis
black wedge sandals
Monday: (back on plane most of day)
black jcrew tee
black blazer
levis
black boots
pashmina
trench
NIGHTS*
I’ll be sharing a room so I brought my black velvet yoga pants and a black tee to sleep in.
Along with my lingerie, that’s it. It all fits easily in an overnight bag.
This is the one I’m taking. I’m keeping my liquid items in an outside pocket to make it easy to get through security …

Love the turquoise- it’s a beautiful color on you! Have fun at the wedding…
Love your chair! It looks so French!!
Wonderful post, and very timely for me as I’m preparing to leave for a 5-day conference. Just scheduled boarding for the dog, made final arrangements for my child, now just have to try to get things settled in the office and the house in order before I leave in the morning. I’m not sure I’ll make it! LOL Have a wonderful time at the wedding.
Don’t forget to post pictures of you at the wedding!
I love, love, love the fabric on that chair! Did you purchase it that way or did you choose the fabric?
This chair was my husband’s grandmothers, which makes it even more special … I love it so much.
